This is from Youtube user duffinbenjamin. I don’t know much about him. Actually the only thing I know about him is his name, and that he has something to do with Evangelical Union.

Anyway, this is a pretty cool 5 minute summary of church history. The high pitched voice is a little annoying, but I realise why it’s like that. Maybe he could have just done it in 6 minutes? I’m also impressed that this was done by an Aussie. There’s so many of these sort of videos done by Americans, but I think Aussies need to step it up a notch! Good work Ben!

Well Launch camp was a while ago now (27th June-1st July), and I just realised I didn’t post the video. Launch is amazing. This year was the first time I have been, and it lived up to everything people had been telling me about it.

It was so encouraging to see teenagers living for Jesus, and taking leadership and service seriously. I spent the week with an awesome groups of year 10-12’s from around SE QLD, learning from the Bible and working with them as they think about their role in leadership in their churches.

Our speaker, Luke Thomson, spoke on Psalms, and we had some great training on things like: Biblical theology, how to write a testimony, and how to read and study the Bible. If you have guys or girls in year 10-12 who are interested in leadership, or who you think have leadership potential, then make sure you send them to Launch in 2012. Holidays and being a follower of Jesus...:

Holidays are great. Being a Bible college student, I get 4 weeks off from regular work. This is great in many ways, and it’s fantastic to have a break from the busyness of college. But I need to make sure I don’t take 4 weeks off from my relationship with Jesus too. It’s so easy to stop spending time reading the Bible, talking to God, and living in a way that points others to Jesus.

One of the challenges of having college (or school) holidays, is that it’s so easy to take a holiday from other important things, like our relationship with Jesus. This is a great article about how we can make sure we don’t take a break from being a follower of Jesus while we’re on holidays.

This week Deanne and I are taking a few days away at Palm Beach....

This week Deanne and I are taking a few days away at Palm Beach. It’s been fantastic to get away from everything and relax. We’ve had some amazing coffee at the Barefoot Barista, we went for a pretty decent breakfast this morning at Genki Cafe, and then this afternoon we went for Turkish Pizza at my favourite Turkish place on the Gold Coast, Adana’s Palace.

Music I like #9: The Wombats

Well as I mentioned in my last “Music I like” post, I’ve been listening to a lot of new music lately. I’ve bought some great albums over the past month or so. There’s so much great music being released at the moment (and probably all the time, but I just miss it or can’t afford to buy it.) Since I had a JB Hifi voucher to use, I visited their house of wonderfulness on Saturday and picked up a few albums I’ve been wanting for a while. The first of these is the new album from The Wombats.

Artist: The Wombats
Album: This Modern Glitch

Highlights: After hearing most of the tracks from this album when Triple J featured it a little while ago, I knew this was going to be a cracker of a record. I already had a few favourites before I even bought it. All of the 10 tracks are great. They’re melodic, catchy, and energetic. There’s a few that stand out though: The first track, Our Perfect Disease, is a great way to open. It’s followed by what is probably my favourite track from the album, Tokyo (Vampires & Wolves). Track 3, Jump Into The Fog, with it’s fantastic drums and a really catchy melody, rounds out what is an impressive opening trilogy for the album. These 3, together with other highlights such as Anti-D, Last Night I Dreamt…, & Techno Fan, make this a VERY good album. It’s been on repeat in my car for the past few days, and I’m loving every second of it.

Lowlights: Length. It’s only 10 tracks, which is a few short of a what I’d like. However they are 10 excellent tracks, and it only cost $15, so I can’t complain too much.

The Last Word: As I suspected I would, I love this album. As my musical taste has evolved over the past 5 years or so, British pop/rock is one genre that I have come to love. There’s something about The Wombats that is really unique, and really appealing to my eardrums. Maybe it’s my soft spot for the English accent that makes this album so enjoyable. Or maybe it’s just fantastic…

Music I like #8: Jeremy Larson

Well I haven’t done a “Music I like” post for ages. And since I’ve been listening to a fair bit of new music lately, I thought now would be a great time to start it up again (with a new and improved structure!).

Artist: Jeremy Larson
Album: They Reappear

Highlights: For me, there are a few standout tracks. Firstly, Ricochet. I love the drums in this song. They’re simple but solid and progressive enough to make it one of those songs I find myself nodding my head along to. Secondly, Doe Eyed Children, (the intro of which kinda reminds me of Silverchair’s “Neon Ballroom”), is just a masterpiece. There’s so much going on, and I just love listening to the incredible layering of strings! Thirdly, Day Residue, is the song on the album that I guess I wasn’t expecting to like. It’s just that little bit different, but has an incredible, funky beat and a “jazzy” feel to it that I really love.

I think the biggest highlight of the album for me, is the awesome instrumental interludes that are scattered throughout the album. There’s 6 in total (Murmur Exhale, Night Terrors, Provoke, Circadian Cues, Remission, & Parasomnias), each of them very different from the last. These 2 minute masterpieces are what make the album for me.

Lowlights: Can’t think of any.

The Last Word: This is another one of those albums that’s just perfectly constructed. Everything fits. Everything just works. The combination of brilliant songs and incredible instrumentals is what makes this album great. It’s an album that I put on, and listen to the entire way through, not even noticing the change of tracks. It’s seamless. Definitely Jeremy’s best work.

I love it.

I can’t wait for this album… Check out The Cinema...
